How To Deep Clean Your Kitchen Before The Holidays

Everyone wants to make sure that their kitchen is clean before the influx of people coming in for various holiday parties. It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to deep cleaning the kitchen. However, with a little patience and a lot of elbow grease, you will have your kitchen ready for the holidays in no time.

Cleaning Appliances

The first thing that you should start with is cleaning all of your appliances. Appliances can get extremely dirty during the year, so cleaning those will make sure that they sparkle.

Oven

A great place to start is your oven. Cleaning your oven will help to ensure that it is clean and functioning well. Some ovens have a self-cleaning cycle on them. If yours does, you can run that for the recommended time. After this cycle has run, you will want to clean out the oven by wiping it down.

If you do not have a self-cleaning oven, you can purchase oven cleaner and spray it on. If you do not want to purchase oven cleaner, you can clean your oven with vinegar, baking soda, and water.

When cleaning the oven, make sure that you completely remove the racks. Put them to soak in your bathtub. You can use regular kitchen cleaners on them, or you can make your own cleaner.

After cleaning allow your oven to dry thoroughly and put the racks back in. You will now want to move to the top part of the oven. If you have a smooth glass top oven, you will want to get a cleaner that will help to remove any build-up. You may have to scrub or scrape the glass well to remove any build-up.

If you have a coil-top oven, you will want to remove the coils and clean each drip pan. You may need to replace each drip pan if they are very dirty or they have not been replaced in a few months.

After that, you will want to wipe down the control area of the oven and anywhere you have not cleaned. It is a good idea to pull the oven out from the wall to wipe down the sides. Clean under the oven as well.

Refrigerator

The next appliance you will want to clean is your refrigerator. Remove all the food, and go through it. If anything is outdated, make sure that you throw it out. You will want to remove all the shelves in both the refrigerator and freezer. Clean them thoroughly. If they are very dirty, consider soaking them in your bathtub.

You can use any kitchen cleaner you want in your refrigerator, or you can make your own cleaner. You can also add some baking soda to your refrigerator to help it smell better.

After you have finished your deep cleaning of the inside of the refrigerator, be sure to clean the outside. Take everything off the top of the refrigerator and wipe it down thoroughly.

You will also want to pull the refrigerator out and clean behind it well. It is also a good idea to take a brush and scrub under the refrigerator itself. This will help to ensure that there is good airflow under the refrigerator.

Dishwasher

Some people make the mistake of never cleaning their dishwasher. They think that since it routinely is used to clean dishes, that it should always be clean. However, dishwashers can get disgusting quickly. This is especially true if the filter gets clogged.

Take the racks out of the dishwasher. Check the filter area to see if there is debris. Take a cloth and cleaner to thoroughly clean the bottom, sides, and top of the dishwasher. You can also purchase a dishwasher cleaning solution that you can run through a normal cycle.

After you have cleaned the inside of your dishwasher, you will need to place the racks back inside and allow it to dry thoroughly before using it again.
Garbage Disposal

If you smell something not so great in your kitchen, but you cannot figure out the cause, chances are it is your garbage disposal. Many people simply forget that the garbage disposal needs to be periodically cleaned.

To clean the garbage disposal, you will need to purchase a garbage disposal cleaner and follow the directions. You can also make your own cleaner with baking soda and vinegar. Pour a cup of vinegar and a cup of baking soda into the garbage disposal. Allow it to sit for five to ten minutes. Turn the water on and disposal. Allow to run for a few minutes and then turn off. Repeat if the garbage disposal is very dirty.

Microwave

Do not forget your microwave. To thoroughly clean your microwave, you will want to remove the plate from the inside. Clean out all dirt and debris. You can use cleaner or just vinegar and water to clean your microwave. Another great idea is to get a microwave steamer to clean your microwave. The most common microwave steamer is the angry woman. You fill her with water and then microwave. The steam helps to break up any grease and particles. Be sure to clean the outside of your microwave as well.

Kitchen Hood

If you have a kitchen hood, do not forget to clean it. They can quickly get covered in grease and dust. To clean a kitchen hood, you will want to use a cleaner that is good at busting up grease, and you will need to use a ton of elbow grease. Scrub thoroughly and allow it to dry well before you use it again.

Cleaning Up Grease Spot

No kitchen is without an occasional grease spot. They may be on the floor, on the stove, on the wall, or even on the countertops. Fortunately, there are products out there that will remove grease spots.

One of the best things that works for grease spots is Dawn dishwashing liquid. You can put the liquid straight on the spot and allow it to sit. You will then need to scrub it off with a soft cloth and water. This should remove the spot.

However, if the spot is still there, and it is somewhere like on a wall, you may be able to clean it and then do some touch-up paint over it. If the grease spot is in the floor and will not come off, you may want to call a professional floor cleaning company to see what they can do.

Counter Tops

Having clean kitchen countertops will help to ensure that your food is safe and that your kitchen is clean. Remove everything from your countertops and clean well with a cleaner and a cloth. If there is anything spilled or dried onto the countertops, consider soaking and then scrubbing.

If your countertops are dull appearing, they may benefit from a good polishing. Make sure that you know what type of countertops you have so that you can look up a good polish for them.

Cleaning the Cabinets

Your cabinets can covered in grime, debris, and even grease over time. Dust can settle into nooks and crannies if you have cabinets with a design. Cabinets can be cleaned with kitchen cleaner and water. Be sure to wipe them down thoroughly. A good idea is to empty the cabinets out completely. Scrub them from top to bottom. After you have cleaned them well, you can put everything back inside and wipe down the outside of the cabinet doors. Do not forget the top and the underside of the cabinets as dust and debris will hide there.

After you have done all this, all you will have left to do is a deep cleaning of your kitchen sink and a deep cleaning of your kitchen floors. Cleaning your kitchen will make you have a sanitized and safe kitchen as well as a beautiful kitchen for the holidays.
